Gratitude
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2739

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from theDeterioration of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that displeases You.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fujati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhathik.

When to Read

This profound supplication is best recited in the morning and evening. It serves as a powerful reminder to be thankful for the blessings we have, not just the grand ones, but also the consistent, often unnoticed, states of well-being and protection Allah provides. Reciting it regularly cultivates a mindset of gratitude and awareness of Allah's constant favor.

How to Read

This dua encapsulates a deep sense of reliance on Allah. It's recommended to recite it with sincerity and contemplation, perhaps after the obligatory prayers or at the beginning of your day. Imagine each aspect of the dua: the fragility of blessings, the protective shield of 'afiyah (well-being), and the ever-present possibility of Allah's displeasure. This personalizes the plea and strengthens your connection to its meaning.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is more than just asking for protection; it's an active expression of gratitude. By seeking refuge from the loss of blessings, we implicitly acknowledge their presence and value. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua, highlighting its importance in safeguarding our spiritual and worldly well-being. It fosters humility, recognizing that all good comes from Allah and can be taken away if we are ungrateful or fall into His displeasure.
