It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began the prayer, he would remain silent for a while. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you! Why do you keep silent between the Takbir and the recitation?' He said: 'I say: O Allah, absolve me of my sins between the heavens and the earth, O Allah, give me light in my heart, light in my sight, light in my hearing, light in my tongue, light in my soul, light in my understanding, light in my life, light in my death, O Allah, grant me light, and grant me light.' He said: 'And he would also say: 'Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdik, tabarakasmuk, wa ta'ala jadduk, wa la ilaha ghayruk.' (Glory be to You, O Allah, and all praise is Yours.
