Dua of Gratitude for the Gift of Empathy

Gratitude
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3803

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ وَّفِيْ كُلِّ نِعْمَةٍ

All praise is for Allah in every condition and for every blessing.

Al-hamdu lillahi 'ala kulli haalin wa fi kulli ni'matin.

When to Read

This is a general expression of gratitude that can be said at any time, especially when reflecting on Allah's blessings. It's particularly fitting when you feel a surge of empathy for someone, recognizing that this ability to connect and feel for others is a profound blessing from Allah. Use it after a moment of shared understanding, after helping someone, or simply when you feel your heart soften towards another creation of Allah.

How to Read

Recite this heartfelt phrase with sincerity and humility. Remember that every feeling, including empathy, originates from Allah. As you say it, reflect on the myriad blessings Allah has bestowed upon you, both the obvious and the subtle, like the ability to feel and connect with others on an emotional level. Let the words flow from a heart that truly acknowledges Allah's grace.

Virtues & Benefits

Expressing gratitude for all states, good or bad, is a hallmark of a true believer. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'The believer’s affair is wonderful. All his affairs are good, and this applies only to the believer. If he is granted ease, he is thankful, and this is good for him. If he is granted hardship, he is patient, and this is good for him.' (Sahih Muslim 2999). Empathy itself is a mercy from Allah, allowing us to foster stronger relationships and fulfill our duties towards fellow humans. Thanking Allah for this gift strengthens our connection with Him and with creation, opening doors to further blessings and divine favor.
