Dua of Gratitude for Learning from Mistakes

Gratitude
Hasan HadithAl-Adab Al-Mufrad 118

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي بِعِزَّتِهِ وَجَلَالِهِ لاَ يُضَامُ جِيرَانُهُ.

All praise is for Allah, by Whose might and majesty, His neighbours are never wronged.

*Al-hamdu lillah alladhi bi'izzatihi wa jalalihi la yudamu jiranuh.*

When to Read

This dua is perfect to recite after realizing a mistake and feeling a sense of gratitude for the lesson learned. It can be said anytime you reflect on your journey, acknowledging Allah's protection and guidance even when you falter. Consider saying it after a difficult situation resolves, or when you've consciously corrected a past error.

How to Read

Recite this with a sincere heart, focusing on the concept of Allah's ultimate power and protection. Understand that 'neighbours' here can refer to those who are under Allah's care and protection, including those who turn to Him. Speak the words with conviction, recognizing that even in our imperfections, Allah's divine system ensures that those who rely on Him are not ultimately wronged.

Virtues & Benefits

This beautiful expression of gratitude acknowledges Allah's sovereignty and His unwavering protection over those who are connected to Him. It reminds us that our mistakes, while humbling, do not lead to ultimate loss when we turn back to Allah. The feeling of gratitude for the *ability* to learn, rather than just regret for the mistake itself, is a sign of spiritual growth, a gift from Allah that prevents despair and encourages perseverance.

Source & Authentication

The narration mentions that when the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was thrown into the fire, he said: 'Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel.' (Allah is sufficient for us and He is the best disposer of affairs). And when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was told: 'Verily, there did assemble for you men of the enemy, therefore fear them.' But it only increased them in faith, and they said: 'Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Protector.' (Al 'Imran 3:173). Then the narrator mentions the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying: 'Al-hamdu lillah alladhi bi'izzatihi wa jalalihi la yudamu jiranuh.' (All praise is for Allah, by Whose might and majesty, His neighbours are never wronged).
