Dua for Help to Remember, Be Grateful, and Worship Excellently

Gratitude
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1522

اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ

O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best manner.

Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik

When to Read

The Prophet ﷺ specifically advised his beloved companion Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) to recite this profound dua at the **end of every prescribed prayer (fardh salah)**. This isn't a casual recommendation; it's a vital teaching given with deep affection and concern, meaning we should strive to make it a regular part of our *dhikr* after each prayer.

How to Read

When you recite this dua, remember who you are addressing: Allah, the All-Powerful, the Source of all help. It's not about rushing through words, but about **sincere request and heartfelt submission**. Take a moment to reflect on each phrase: genuinely wanting to remember Allah, earnestly striving to be thankful, and truly seeking His aid to improve your worship. Recite it with presence of mind, understanding its profound meaning, and trusting that Allah will respond to your sincere plea.

Virtues & Benefits

This short yet profound dua holds immense blessings and encompasses the core of our relationship with Allah. The fact that the Prophet ﷺ, out of his deep love for Mu'adh, specifically taught him this indicates its extraordinary significance. By regularly asking Allah for help in **remembrance (dhikr)**, you ensure your heart stays connected to Him, protecting you from heedlessness. Asking for assistance in **gratitude (shukr)** cultivates a mindset of appreciation for all of Allah’s blessings, both apparent and hidden, fulfilling a core command in the Quran (Al-Baqarah 2:152). And seeking His aid for **excellent worship (husni 'ibadatik)** elevates our prayers, fasts, and all acts of devotion from mere rituals into profound, heartfelt connections with our Creator. It's a comprehensive plea for success in fulfilling our greatest responsibilities as Muslims.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took my hand and said: 'O Mu'adh, by Allah, I love you, so do not fail to say at the end of every prayer: O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best manner (Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik).'
