Exams
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from inability and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and from being overcome by men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahari-rijali.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is particularly relevant during intense study periods leading up to and during exams. Recite it in the morning after Fajr prayer and in the evening after Maghrib prayer, as this was the Prophet's ﷺ practice for seeking Allah's protection. It's also beneficial to recite it whenever you feel the onset of mental exhaustion, overwhelming stress, or a lack of motivation to study.

How to Read

Raise your hands slightly, palms facing upwards, and recite with sincerity and conviction. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, internalizing the request for Allah's protection from these afflictions. After reciting, you can place your hands on your face or chest as a sign of seeking blessings and protection. Consistent recitation is key, not just a one-time effort.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the core issues that contribute to mental fatigue and burnout: worry (hamm), grief (hazan), inability (ajz), laziness (kasal), cowardice (jubn), and stinginess (bukhl). By seeking refuge in Allah from these, we are asking for the inner strength and focus needed to persevere through challenging academic times. Allah's protection can alleviate the psychological burdens of exams, fostering clarity of mind and renewed energy. The Prophet's ﷺ teaching of this dua highlights its efficacy in safeguarding our mental and emotional well-being.
