Exams
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 251

اللَّهُمَّ فَقِّهْنِي فِي الدِّينِ، وَعَلِّمْنِي التَّأْوِيلَ.

O Allah, grant me understanding in the religion, and teach me the interpretation.

Allahumma faqqihni fid-deen, wa 'allimni at-ta'weel.

When to Read

This dua is particularly relevant before facing an examination, whether it's a written test, an oral interview, or any situation where you need to demonstrate your knowledge or understanding. Recite it with sincerity as you prepare, or just before entering the examination hall, asking Allah to grant you clarity and the ability to grasp what is expected.

How to Read

Recite this dua with full conviction, raising your hands if possible, facing the Qiblah. Understand that seeking knowledge and understanding is a noble pursuit in Islam. This supplication asks for two key things: deep comprehension of religious matters (which can be extended to any field of study) and the ability to interpret and explain it correctly – a vital skill for any examiner or student.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific dua focuses on understanding the religion, its essence extends to seeking Allah's help in understanding any complex matter. By asking for 'understanding' and 'interpretation,' we are essentially asking Allah to grant us the wisdom to comprehend the nuances of a subject and the clarity to articulate it effectively. This can indirectly help in understanding what an examiner might be looking for, as it cultivates a deeper grasp of the material. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ supplicated for his uncle, 'Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), saying: 'O Allah, teach him the Book [Al-Kitab]' (Sahih al-Bukhari 4701), showing the importance of seeking specialized knowledge from Allah.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) took me by the neck and said: 'O Allah, teach him the Book (Al-Kitab).' (Then he said): 'O Allah, make him understand the religion and teach him the interpretation.'
