اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I do not need anyone but You.

Allahumma akfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

This beautiful dua, though general in its wording, carries profound implications when facing challenges like exams. Recite it sincerely before you begin your exam, or even during your preparation. It's about seeking Allah's help not just to pass, but to do so in a way that is pleasing to Him and purifies us from any potential shortcomings.

How to Read

Approach this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands (if possible and appropriate) and beseech Allah. Ensure you pronounce the Arabic clearly, understanding that the meaning is what truly matters. Focus on the request for sufficiency through lawful means and being enriched by His grace, a powerful reminder of our dependence on the Creator.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific dua doesn't directly promise exam success, its benefit lies in its comprehensive request. By asking Allah to suffice us with lawful provision and enrich us with His grace, we are seeking His blessings in our endeavors. This can manifest in clear thinking, ease in answering, and a sense of contentment regardless of the outcome. More importantly, it frames our efforts within the context of seeking Allah's pleasure and avoiding unlawful means, which can indeed be a means of seeking His forgiveness for our shortcomings.

Source & Authentication

Ibn 'Abbas narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The one who is content with what Allah has decreed for him is the one with the most wealth.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563). The dua itself, 'Allahumma akfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak,' is also attributed to the Prophet (ﷺ) as a supplication he would make, highlighting the importance of seeking lawful provision and reliance on Allah's bounty.
