The narration states that a man asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) what is the best supplication. He remained silent for a while, then said: 'Ask your Lord for forgiveness and well-being in this life and the next.' Then he came to him the next day and asked: 'O Prophet of Allah, what is the best supplication?' He replied: 'Ask your Lord for forgiveness and well-being in this life and the next. In the world, we are afflicted with hardships and trials, and in the Hereafter, there is Paradise or Hell. So ask your Lord for forgiveness and well-being.' Then he came to him the third day and asked: 'O Prophet of Allah, what is the best supplication?' He replied: 'O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and calm my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, and from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Greatness from being taken unawares from beneath me.' Then he said: 'O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, protect me and provide for me.' The narrator said: 'These words are indeed comprehensive.'
