اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask anyone other than You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka

When to Read

This dua is excellent to recite before an exam, or even during a stressful study period. It's about seeking Allah's help to gain the skills and knowledge needed, trusting that He will provide the means. Think of it as a prayer before facing a challenge, asking Allah to make your efforts sufficient and to bless your path.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a sincere heart, believing that Allah is the ultimate provider. It's recommended to raise your hands slightly, as you would during other supplications. Focus on the meaning: you are asking Allah to equip you with what you need (knowledge, understanding, clarity) and to make you independent of needing anything else through His bounty. Repeat it a few times for added emphasis, especially before entering the exam hall or starting a study session.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, though general, encompasses the desire for Allah's help in all our worldly affairs, including academic pursuits. By asking Allah to suffice us with His lawful provision, we are indirectly asking Him to grant us the understanding and clarity to perform well in our exams, which is a means of lawful sustenance. The second part, 'enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask anyone other than You,' is a profound request for self-sufficiency through Allah's bounty, which includes the ability to connect concepts and articulate them effectively in an exam setting.

Source & Authentication

‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a slave who had made a contract for his freedom came to him and said: 'I am unable to pay the stipulated amount, so help me.' ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Shall I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) taught me, and if you had the equivalent of a mountain of debt, Allah would pay it for you? Say: Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka.' Translation: 'O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask anyone other than You.'
