اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and deeds that are accepted.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.
When to Read
This dua is particularly relevant before starting an exam. Recite it just as you are about to begin writing, after Bismillah. It's also beneficial to recite it before any task requiring knowledge and focus, such as studying or attending lectures.
How to Read
Raise your hands slightly (as one would for supplication) and recite with sincerity, focusing on the meaning of the words. Imagine Allah's knowledge encompassing all things and His ability to grant you understanding and clarity. Afterward, you can place your right hand on your chest where the heart is, as a gesture of seeking Allah's blessing and guidance in your studies.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his wife Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), asks for three crucial things: beneficial knowledge that helps one in this life and the hereafter, pure and lawful provision, and deeds that are accepted by Allah. For exams, the 'beneficial knowledge' aspect is paramount, as it encompasses understanding, retention, and the ability to articulate it clearly under pressure. Seeking accepted deeds also invokes Allah's mercy in making your efforts count.

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, upon concluding the morning prayer, would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and deeds that are accepted).
