O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree concerning me is inevitable, and Your judgment of me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any one of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my sadness, and a remover of my anxieties.

Allahumma inni 'abd-uk, ibn 'abd-ik, ibn amat-ik, nasiyati biyad-ik, madin fiyya hukm-uk, 'adlun fiyya qadaa'-uk, as'aluka bikulli-ism Huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitab-ik, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalq-ik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghayb 'indak, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabee'a qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jalaa'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi

When to Read

This is a profound dua that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us for dealing with distress and seeking a profound sense of peace. When you're feeling the anxiety of waiting for exam results, or any other situation that weighs heavily on your heart and mind, turning to this dua can bring immense comfort and a renewed focus on what truly matters.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of each phrase. Begin by acknowledging Allah's (SWT) absolute power and control over all affairs, including your own destiny. Recognize that your situation is in His hands, and He is the source of all relief. Make a sincere supplication, calling upon Allah (SWT) by the most beloved of His names, those He has chosen for Himself. Then, specifically ask Him to make the Quran the means of solace for your heart, light for your soul, and an end to your worries. Try to recite it when you feel the pressure mounting, perhaps before sleeping or after Salah.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself, directly addresses the root of anxiety and sadness by seeking refuge in Allah (SWT) and His divine guidance. By asking for the Quran to be the 'springtime of the heart,' it highlights the immense capacity of Allah's Book to bring life, joy, and renewal to our inner selves, even in the most trying circumstances. It's a powerful tool for mental and emotional well-being, shifting our focus from the outcome of worldly matters to the eternal guidance of the Quran.

Source & Authentication

I was with Allah's Messenger ﷺ one day and he said: 'There is no servant who says – There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. Glorified be Allah, and praised be Allah. There is no god but Allah. Allah is Greatest. Glorified be Allah, and praised be Allah. There is no god but Allah, and He Alone. There is no partner for Him. His is the dominion and His is the praise. He is Able to do all things. O Allah, no repeller of what You give, nor giver of what You withhold, nor is the wealthy one able to keep his wealth from You.' Then he said: 'The reciter of this supplication said at that time: There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. Glorified be Allah, and praised be Allah. There is no god but Allah. Allah is Greatest. Glorified be Allah, and praised be Allah. There is no god but Allah, and He Alone. There is no partner for Him. His is the dominion and His is the praise. He is Able to do all things. O Allah, no repeller of what You give, nor giver of what You withhold, nor is the wealthy one able to keep his wealth from You.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'What was said?' He replied: 'I recited this supplication.' He said: 'Then what did you ask for?' He said: 'I asked for all the good in this world and the Hereafter and sought refuge in Allah from all that the world and the Hereafter contain.' Then he said: 'Then you have been granted all the good in this world and in the Hereafter, and if you die that day, you will enter Paradise.' Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet ﷺ taught me a comprehensive supplication that he used to recite when he was distressed, and it is: 'O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree concerning me is inevitable, and Your judgment of me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any one of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my sadness, and a remover of my anxieties.'
