أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytan.
A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajim
When to Read
Recite this when you experience intrusive thoughts, distracting whispers (waswas), confusion, or general worry that disrupts your focus and concentration (khushu') during your salah (prayer). This guidance specifically addresses Shaytan's attempts to interfere with your worship.
How to Read
When you feel Shaytan interfering with your prayer, causing distraction or worry, mentally recite 'A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajim'. As taught by the Prophet ﷺ, you should also lightly 'spit' (a dry puff of air, without actual saliva) to your left side three times. This action, combined with seeking refuge, is a physical and spiritual expulsion of Shaytan's influence.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful instruction from the Prophet ﷺ provides a direct and effective remedy against Shaytan's attempts to rob us of the peace and reward of our prayer. By seeking refuge in Allah and performing the prescribed action, we cleanse our minds of distractions, regain our focus, and strengthen our connection with Allah, ensuring our worship is sincere and undisturbed by unnecessary worry.

Uthman ibn Abi al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the Shaytan interferes between me and my prayer and my recitation, and he confuses me." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "That is a shaytan called Khanzab. If you feel that, seek refuge with Allah from him and spit drily to your left three times." He (Uthman) said: I did that and Allah took him away from me. — Sahih Muslim 2203
