اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَقَبْرِ.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hellfire and the grave.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhdhabi jahannama wa qabri.
When to Read
This dua is profoundly important to recite during prayer, particularly during sujood (prostration), as it is a time when we are closest to our Lord. It's also beneficial to make it a habit to recite this supplication at other times, especially after the Tashahhud, before the tasleem (final salutation) of the prayer, to seek Allah's protection from the torments of both the grave and Hellfire.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of hope in Allah's mercy. Focus on the meaning as you utter the words, visualizing Allah's protection enveloping you. It's recommended to say it during sujood or before concluding your prayer, reflecting on the immense mercy of Allah for granting us a way to seek refuge from such terrible fates.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly invokes Allah's protection from two of the most terrifying punishments we can face: the punishment of the grave and the punishment of Hellfire. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this comprehensive supplication, highlighting the importance of seeking refuge in Allah from these severe trials. By reciting it, we acknowledge our weakness and dependence on Allah's mercy to shield us from the unbearable heat and torment of Jahannam and the pressures and questioning of the grave.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhdhabi jahannama wa min 'adhdhabi al-qabri, wa min fitnatil-mahyā wal-ma'āt, wa min sharri fitnatil-masihid-dajjal.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hellfire, from the punishment of the grave, from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the Dajjal.) He also said: 'When any one of you finishes the Tashahhud, he should seek refuge in Allah from four things: From the punishment of Hellfire, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of the Dajjal, and from the trials of life and death.' Then he should say whatever he likes in his supplication. Sahih Muslim 588
