During Prayer
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 22052

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ حُبِّي لِلصَّلَاةِ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أُمِّي وَأَبِي وَمِنَ الْمَاءِ الْبَارِدِ

O Allah, make my love for prayer more beloved to me than my mother and my father, and than cold water.

Allahumma-j'al hubbi lis-salati ahabba ilayya min ummi wa abiy wa minal-ma'il barid

This is a beautiful dua to make at any point, but especially when you are preparing for prayer, as you are reciting it, or after you have finished. It’s a supplication that helps reshape our inner state, aiming to foster a deeper, more genuine connection with the act of praying itself.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt yearning. Visualize yourself finding profound peace and happiness in your salah. It’s not just about the words, but the deep desire behind them – the wish for prayer to become your ultimate refuge and delight.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the core of what prayer should be: a source of joy and comfort, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself described it. By asking Allah to make prayer more beloved than even parents or the most refreshing drink, we are seeking to elevate our spiritual experience. It helps shift our perspective from seeing prayer as an obligation to cherishing it as a divine connection, a moment of true peace and solace in our lives. This aligns with the concept that true believers find tranquility in remembering Allah, as stated in Surah Ar-Ra'd (13:28).

Source & Authentication

Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Love of women, perfume, and prayer were made pleasing to me, and prayer was made the coolness of my eyes.' In another narration, it is reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Allah, make my love for prayer more beloved to me than my mother and my father, and than cold water.'
