I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His creation, and from the evil whispers of devils, and from their presence.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatis-shayateeni wa an yahdurun.
When to Read
Recite this dua when you feel anger rising within you upon witnessing a minor injustice or offense. It's particularly useful when you are unable to directly intervene or when direct confrontation might escalate the situation unnecessarily. Say it before speaking, acting, or even internally reacting to the offense.
How to Read
Recite with sincerity, focusing on the meaning of seeking Allah's protection from His anger (which we should also fear for ourselves) and from evil influences. This dua is best recited with the inner intention of calming oneself and seeking divine assistance to respond with patience and wisdom, rather than with impulsive anger.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua encompasses seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words from several evils: His own anger (a reminder of accountability), His punishment, the general evil of creation, and the specific instigation of Shaytan. By reciting it, we acknowledge our weakness and turn to the only true source of protection, asking Allah to shield us from internal anger and external negative influences that might provoke it or arise from it.
Source & Authentication
The narration is: 'Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-'As reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The supplicator seeks refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His creation, and from the evil whispers of devils, and from their presence.' (Hasan, Sunan Abu Dawud 3892. The hadith is considered Hasan due to corroborating chains of narration).
