Anger
Sahih HadithBook of Al-Adab (Good Manners) 6048

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

I seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan, the rejected.

A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajeem

When to Read

Immediately upon feeling the onset of anger, irritation, or rage, particularly when provoked or feeling belittled. It serves as a spiritual shield against Shaytan's whispers, which often fuel negative emotions.

How to Read

Recite these words sincerely, focusing on seeking Allah's protection from Shaytan's influence. The Prophet ﷺ also advised combining this spiritual remedy with physical actions to manage anger, such as sitting down if you are standing, lying down if you are sitting, making wudu (ablution), or drinking water.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge in Allah from Shaytan directly addresses the root cause of excessive anger, as Shaytan actively tries to incite conflict and cause us to act impulsively and sinfully. This dua helps you regain composure, prevents you from saying or doing something regrettable, and earns Allah's pleasure for restraining yourself for His sake. It’s a powerful step towards maintaining calm and patience in challenging situations.

Source & Authentication

Sulaiman ibn Surad (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I was sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ), and two men were reviling each other. One of them became red in the face and his veins became distended. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'I know a word which, if he were to say it, what he feels would go away. If he were to say, "I seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan," what he feels would go away.'" — Sahih al-Bukhari 6048
