I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.
A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajeem. Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.
When to Read
This dua is particularly potent when you feel the heat of anger rising within you after witnessing or experiencing an act of social injustice. It's a moment of inner struggle where the desire to react impulsively clashes with the need for wisdom and patience. Recite this immediately after the injustice occurs, or even as you feel the first signs of anger, before it overwhelms your judgment.
How to Read
Begin by seeking refuge from Shaytan, as anger is a prime tool he uses to sow discord and lead us astray. Then, turn to Allah with sincerity, recognizing that true power and guidance come from Him. This dua focuses on asking for beneficial knowledge – the wisdom to understand the situation correctly and respond appropriately – goodly provision, which can encompass more than just wealth, including inner peace and sound judgment, and acceptable deeds. When reciting, try to feel the weight of each word and the earnestness of your supplication. It's best recited with a sincere heart, ideally after fulfilling your obligatory prayers, but in moments of intense emotion, even a heartfelt recitation wherever you are can be effective.
Virtues & Benefits
This beautiful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a comprehensive request for well-being. By asking for beneficial knowledge, we equip ourselves to discern right from wrong and to act justly, even when provoked. Goodly provision helps maintain our sustenance and peace of mind, preventing desperation that can fuel anger. Most importantly, asking for acceptable deeds ensures that our actions, including any attempt to rectify injustice, are done for the sake of Allah and are pleasing to Him. This shifts the focus from personal vengeance or emotional outburst to a righteous, constructive response.

It was narrated from Umm Salamah that the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) used to say, when he had finished the morning prayer: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds). And when he made the Taslim, he would say: 'A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajeem.' (I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan).
