أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.
A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajeem
When to Read
Recite this specifically when you feel the heat of anger rising due to witnessing ignorance, foolish behavior, or hurtful words from others. It's a proactive step to prevent an outburst and seek Allah's protection from the instigation of Shaytan, who often fuels anger.
How to Read
When you feel anger building, pause. Take a deep breath and sincerely recite 'A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajeem.' This act of seeking refuge is the first line of defense against losing control. Follow this with the intention to be patient and control your reaction, remembering the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is the initial step taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when anger strikes. In a narration, a man asked the Prophet ﷺ for advice: 'Advise me.' He replied, 'Do not become angry.' The man asked again, and he repeated, 'Do not become angry.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6116). Seeking refuge in Allah protects you from Shaytan's whispers, which often magnify the offense and make anger harder to control. It helps to cool the heart and mind, enabling a more rational and Islamic response.
