Dua for Suppressing Anger When Witnessing Acts of Kufr

Anger
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1554

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and from the evil of my sight, and from the evil of my tongue, and from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my semen.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'i, wa min sharri basari, wa min sharri lisani, wa min sharri qalbi, wa min sharri maniyyi.

When to Read

This profound supplication is particularly relevant when you witness acts of disbelief (kufr) or other transgressions that stir strong emotions within you. It's a dua to invoke Allah's protection over your senses, your heart, and your overall well-being, helping you to remain steadfast and controlled when faced with provocative situations. Recite it before you find yourself in a situation where you might react impulsively out of anger or distress over disbelief, or as soon as you feel such emotions arising.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt conviction. Understand that you are actively seeking Allah's protection from internal and external evils that can lead to destructive actions. Place your right hand over your heart as you recite, a gesture that signifies seeking refuge within the protection of Allah. Focus on each part of the plea: protecting your hearing from what is impermissible to hear, your sight from what is impermissible to see, your tongue from speaking evil or falsehoods, your heart from harboring ill intentions or doubts, and your private parts from sin. The full supplication is a comprehensive shield.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua serves as a powerful shield against succumbing to negative reactions when confronted with kufr or other sinful displays. By seeking refuge in Allah from the 'evil of my hearing, sight, tongue, heart, and semen,' you are essentially asking Allah to guard you from the means and consequences of sin. This protection helps to prevent anger from escalating into actions that displease Allah, like harsh words, harmful thoughts, or deeds driven by impulse. It fosters inner peace and resilience, enabling you to respond to such situations with wisdom and patience rather than reactive anger. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this to his companions as a comprehensive safeguard against various evils, promoting spiritual and moral well-being.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of this world and the evil of what happens after it. He would say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharr sam'i, wa min sharr basari, wa min sharr lisani, wa min sharr qalbi, wa min sharr maniyyi.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and from the evil of my sight, and from the evil of my tongue, and from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my semen.) - Sunan Abi Dawud 1554. This hadith highlights the Prophet's ﷺ constant reliance on Allah for protection against all forms of evil, both outward and inward.
