Dua for Suppressing Anger and Resisting Immorality

Anger
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3892

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His servants, and from the promptings of the devils, and from their presence.

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatis-shayatin, wa an yahdurun

When to Read

Recite this dua when you feel anger rising, especially when faced with temptations towards immoral acts or when you are provoked. It's a powerful shield against both internal rage and external whispers of Shaytan that seek to lead you astray.

How to Read

Recite this sincerely with full conviction in Allah's power to protect you. It's best recited when the feeling of anger or temptation first arises, before it takes hold. Take a moment, perhaps even change your physical state (like sitting down if standing), and then make this dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua invokes Allah's protection against several evils: His own anger and punishment, the wickedness of people, and the insidious whispers of Shaytan. By seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words, you are grounding yourself in His ultimate power and asking for His intervention to quell anger and resist immoral influences. It's a spiritual anchor in moments of vulnerability.

Source & Authentication

Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to teach us this supplication for protection against anger, just as he used to teach us a chapter from the Quran: 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His servants, and from the promptings of the devils, and from their presence.'
