Dua for Remaining Calm When Rumors Spread

Anger
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1550

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and from the evil of my sight, and from the evil of my tongue, and from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my sperm.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'i, wa min sharri basari, wa min sharri lisani, wa min sharri qalbi, wa min sharri maniyyi.

Focus on the meaning as you say it, recognizing that the 'evil of the tongue' can encompass malicious speech, and the 'evil of the heart' can lead to harboring ill feelings or anger. Asking for protection from these enables you to maintain inner peace and a righteous perspective, even when faced with difficult situations.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua provides comprehensive protection from various forms of harm. By seeking refuge in Allah from the evil of our hearing, we are protected from listening to harmful speech like backbiting or slander. Seeking refuge from the evil of our sight protects us from looking at that which is displeasing to Allah and causing further distress. Protecting our tongue prevents us from engaging in or perpetuating harmful speech, while seeking refuge for our heart shields us from harboring resentment, anger, or envy that rumors can incite. Ultimately, this leads to greater inner tranquility and resilience against the negativity of others.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and from the evil of my sight, and from the evil of my tongue, and from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my sperm.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 1550, Hasan). The term 'maniyyi' can refer to one's creation or origin, and in this context, it can be understood as seeking refuge from the evil that stems from one's own being or creation, including one's desires and inclinations, which can be led astray by malicious words.
