O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, and to abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor, and that You forgive me and have mercy on me. And if You intend to test a people, then take me to Yourself without subjecting me to that test. And I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.
Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'l-khayrat, wa tark al-munkarat, wa hubb al-masakin, wa an taghfira li wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta bi qawmin fitnatan fa tawaffani ilayha ghayra maftoon, wa as'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amal yuqarribu ila hubbik.

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Ibn Shihab, from Salim Abu an-Nadr, the freed slave of Umar ibn Ubaydillah, from Bustam al-Madini, from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "No one is born a prophet except that he has made a covenant in his knowledge. No one is born a scholar except that he has made a covenant in his knowledge. No one is born a king except that he has made a covenant in his knowledge. Then he recited, 'Say: 'I ask of you no reward for it, except love of my kinsfolk' (42:23).' Then he said, 'The poor are my kinsfolk. Ask of me, and I will give you. Ask of me the love of the poor.' Then he said, 'O Allah, I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of the deed which brings me to Your love.' He said, 'And then the servant is granted your love, O Allah, provided he has not desired what is forbidden and has not spoken ill of what is forbidden.' Then he said, 'O Allah, I ask You to do good deeds and to abandon evil deeds and to love the poor, and that You forgive me and have mercy on me. And if You intend to test a people, then take me to Yourself without subjecting me to that test, and I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of the deed which brings me to Your love.' Then he said, 'The verses of the Qur'an have been revealed to me and I have been commanded to recite them.' He said, 'The poor are my kinsfolk.'
