Dua for Calming Anger Towards a Rude Stranger

Anger
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5046

I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan. O Allah, forgive my sin, remove the anger from my heart, and save me from the trials that lead astray.

A'udhu billahi minash-shaitanir-rajeem. Allahummaghfirli dhanbi, wa adh-hib ghayza qalbi, wa ajirni min mudillatil-fitan.

When to Read

Recite this when you feel anger rising due to someone's rudeness or harsh words. It's particularly useful when encountering strangers whose behavior provokes a strong emotional reaction. You can say it silently to yourself as the situation unfolds.

How to Read

Begin by seeking refuge in Allah from Shaytan, as anger often stems from his whispers. Then, sincerely ask Allah for forgiveness, acknowledging that our reactions can sometimes be sinful. Next, directly ask Allah to remove the anger from your heart, recognizing that true peace comes from Him. Finally, seek protection from trials that can lead one astray, as uncontrolled anger can indeed lead to harmful consequences.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers a comprehensive approach to managing anger. It seeks Allah's forgiveness for any wrongdoing related to the feeling of anger, requests the removal of the anger itself from the heart, and asks for protection against being led astray by temptations or difficult situations that anger can cause. It's a powerful tool to regain composure and seek divine assistance in controlling negative emotions, thereby preserving our faith and character.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet ﷺ said, "No one has a spirit of envy like Allah's Spirit. He is the One Who is envious, and He reveals His envious disposition, for He dislikes that His slaves should be like others in all respects. So He forbade immoral pleasures, and He forbade the \[practice of] doing things unjustly, and He forbade \[the committing of] sins." Then he mentioned some things, and then said: "I adjure you by Allah, is there any among you who is not encompassed by the attribute of Allah? I adjure you by Allah, is there any among you who is not subject to the attribute of Allah? I adjure you by Allah, is there any among you who is not subject to the attribute of Allah? Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet ﷺ said: 'The believer does not find contentment in anything other than the dust of this world, so may Allah make your striving in it beneficial. And if it is not so, then I do not care. Verily, I do not care about the world, and what is in it. And I do not care if I become in the morning or in the evening in this world without a dirham or a dinar.' And he said: 'O Allah, forgive my sin, remove the anger from my heart, and save me from the trials that lead astray.' [The narrator then mentioned a long Hadith].
